Special Mission Weekends: Similar to This Weekends
I loved entering the mission tonight (endgame Prophecies) and seeing it packed full of people, just like old times. I thought it would be cool if each weekend Anet featured a different PvE mission...maybe gave a 2k reward or something special for masters completion...
Would give us old timers some nostalgic gaming and help out those who haven't done them before...what do you guys think?

Good idea to give incentives to do old missions again, but 2k wouldn't be enough of an incentive. Bump it up to 10k, then it would start to be worth the time.

10k = money inflation
2k I think is fine per character one time max. Hell maybe not even money just like double xp and drops will get enough to fill districts.

2k wouldnt be any incentive. That's sort of a problem in game already. Rewards (or reasons) to replay missions are just nonexistent.
Still, great idea. I'd love a reason that people collected weekly at a particular mission location. Would indeed feel like old times.

this is a pretty good idea. I dont know what a good incentive would be, maybe double XP and gold per completion or like consumable drops during mission or something.
Hard to think of a perfect incentive since money isnt a big deal and special drops means itll just be farmed and not completed... But if a good incentive could be thought of this is a cool idea

Interesting idea. Honestly, there needs to be more incentive to go back and replay stuff. While we're at it, hard mode vanquishing, and hard mode in general, could use a better incentive than "some words under my name."

I think double xp or double drops for just ne mission might be time consuming to program, as might configuring new weapons.
Nice idea though.. how about some free consumable(s) for completing a specified mission each weekend? (they could be sold/used as the person wanted) Not sure if this would be any easier to program though...
Drawing from another thread, putting the NPC's to collect the rewards in "little used" towns such as Denravi in Proph etc? (not end game town, just the out of the way ones).

Awesome ideas, just need some honing - money, xp, skill points, consumables, dyes, keys/picks, a chest with a gold drop at the end a la GWEN dungeons, hero armor items, all of these things make great rewards. This sort of focus has done wonders in other games - WoW comes to mind, with a new battleground giving extra rewards every weekend, and a different dungeon every day giving extra badges that can be turned in elsewhere, in greater quantities, for loot. CoV introduced similar focus in its PvP arenas as well, pushing the players together by offering various bonuses to all of them. Anet's current weekends are nice, but aside from the PvP weekends, most of the weekends just encourage solo farming, not social gathering or grouping.
If we really want to see gathering and grouping, we need to remember: people respond to incentives. Don't penalize people for not grouping; reward them for doing it.

I love the idea, but i dont see the use for a double XP reward for well, any mission because in the end its just a number, good to level up but once in lvl 20 and dead its just meaningless, survivors may not benefit from this but then they go to that stonekin dungeon and get it in a day, so thats no excuse to complaign about not having double xp.
I think to make it worthwhile whilst not turning every mission into a 55, 600/smite or shadow form farmers fest is to increase the gold award thats already there and give something of a random item, could be consumables, sweet points, party points, or ale, or some % chance of dropping rare items (gold items, not elitetism stuff like voltaic spears)
Again i love the idea here, and it would encourage a lot of people to do the missions again, go pugging, have some fun in the missions, making new friends and all the stuff that comes with it, including lame or stupid people but those are everywhere anyways
Cheers

2k is what you could get out of a do not touch sign
i see where your coming from but i really don't see anything anet could give us as a reward that would give us true incentive to do the mission. People have suggested reputation points for missions or money like you did however if we just farmed the points or the cash we'd make more likely in less time so it's really not worth the effort
i see what you want to happen here but unfortunately lots of players are leaving the game right now, good friend of mine is considering leaving and i'm having trouble convincing him not to ><, and nothing short of new elite areas imo can stop them from leaving or even bring them back. And the togetherness of pve died with the introduction of heroes.
so /notsigned for now

That would be fun.
But not the 2k. I think that special item drop and/or end reward with cunsommable (sweets, GWEN object...etc...). That would be fun.

If a cash reward, then a one time cash award. But even then, you got thousands of players with multiple characters going through it, and even at 2k a pop-even if it's one time-will introduce alot of gold into the economy.
In the past they've done a Double XP reward for EotN and that was fairly successful. Maybe they can do something similar to the other games?

I think the problem with double XP rewards is that for the majority (assumption) of players, XP means nothing anymore. I think the only reason dble xp/rewards were popular in EotN was that people had chars that needed to do stuff there anyway so it was a "might as well do it on a dble weekend" than anything. Whether that would encourage people to do a jungle mission for example is doubtful IMHO.

Factions missions could give something like 10k kurzick or luxon faction points.
Make the EotN ones give out X amount of Norn/Asura/Vanguard/Deldrimor faction.
Proph. ones can cause a chest to spawn that can give players lockpicks/gold items/materials or any combination thereof.

2k was just a suggestion, I was just trying to think of something feasible...asking for unique weapon skins like this weekend would be a bit overkill imo. Rewards could include faction, gold, rare items, etc...the point is breathing some life into old missions

I think there's a better way to do it - instead of making it weekends, make it Random Daily Mission Buff!
Make the game choose a mission at random every day, from any campagin. Any character, no matter if has done the mission or not, can receive Bonus Reward for completing the mission once this day.
Example Bonus rewards:
NM:
completion: 1k gold, 1k exp
with bonus/master: additional 1.5k gold, 2k exp
(2,500g total, 3,000xp total)
HM:
completion: 1.5k gold, 1.5k exp
with bonus/master: additional 2.5k gold, 3k exp
(4,000g total, 4,500xp total)
(just an example)
Increased quality of drops in the missions are also a possibility, but it would encourage farming instead of doing missions for the completion.
And while we're at it, one more thing -- Random Daily Vanquishing Buffs!
Randomly select one area for every day, and have this area offer increased rewards:
*Triple Gold and Exp for completely vanquishing this zone
*Double Points for titles from bounties in that area (HM only)
*Some kinds of special or improved drops in that area in HM, but it shouldn't encourage overfarming that area but clearing whole area as a team.
How to do it?
Idea:: make the special drops start to drop after 50% of mobs in the area have been killed!
*Bonus rewards should apply only once per day per character.
I think this would GREATLY increase the interest and people would start gathering in outposts and form teams for doing certain areas, it would attract and focus large numbers of players into one spot. Empty outposts would fill to multiple districts and vanquishing would be accessible for people who don't have a bunch of firends or guildmates who are interested in doing the same thing. Encourage pugging!
It would also partially solve the problem of having no centralized LFG solution for HM missions/vanq - while still concentrated into just one place per day, no need for new technology!
Maybe this idea deserves a separate thread...
